New Build in Monrovia

Donation Progress (Updated: 1-4-2008)

MONROVIA SHERMAN CAMPAIGN UPDATE

SGV Habitat for Humanity has made some progress as we seek to raise $533,000 to build four houses on Sherman Avenue. To date, we have $226,636 pledged or given.  That leaves us with $123,364 yet to raise before we can break ground..  This is Habitat’s first venture into Monrovia. There has been enthusiasm from local residents and the Monrovia City Council, who have provided the land.

$100,000 has been received through a Charitable Remainder Trust from Dorothy Reed, $20,000 pledged by The Walt Disney Company, $48,600 from the Board of Directors, 10,000 from Downey Savings and Loan, $5,000 from Donna Baker, Monrovia Realtor and $5,000 from Cal National Bank of Monrovia.

We hope that we can count on your financial support.  You can either designate the Monrovia Build on the Annual Appeal card you received or go to the web site www.sgvhabitat.org and donate online.

Plans are currently in the works for the Family Selection.  We must first reach a funding goal of $250,000. When that happens, it will be announced through various sources in the city and at this site.  Orientation meetings will follow where applications can be received.

If you live in Monrovia, look for us in a commercial at the Krikorian Theaters, generously donated to Habitat.  We also have appeared in KGEM’s Behind the Headlines to tell our story and have been at the Friday Night Street Festivals since September.

“We want to give special thanks to Councilmember Mary Ann Lutz, Donna Baker, Charlotte Hogan and Sonja Yates who planted the seeds to make this development happen”, said Ann Dougherty, Sherman Campaign Chair.

Four teams have been formed to focus on particular groups.  The Faith Build is headed by Howard Woo and is seeking support from the faith community.  Daric Lee and Deborah Loveland, both who come from a banking background, are giving leadership to the Financial Build, approaching various financial institutions and auditing firms. Donna Baker, a Monrovia realtor and long time supporter of Habitat, spearheads the Women’s Build.  Donna has recruited 23 women to contribute and build. They have created their own web site http://monroviawomensbuild.org  Mike Davitt and Don Goodman head the area for the Construction/Business Build.  They will seek out monetary donations and in kind materials that could reduce expenses in building.
