Through the work of Habitat, thousands of low-income families have found new hope in the form of affordable housing. Businesses, churches, community groups and individuals have joined together to successfully tackle a significant social problem – decent housing for all.Today, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 300,000 houses, sheltering more than 1.5 million people in more than 3,000 communities worldwide.
San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity (SGVHFH) is only one of more than 2,300 affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International serving in over 90 countries. Each affiliate is asked to tithe 10% of undesignated donations to fund house-building work in other parts of the world. These contributions provide much-needed funds for international development and give affiliates, especially those here in the United States, the opportunity to demonstrate the spirit of Christian partnership. Therefore, when you give to SGVHFH, you are not only supporting local efforts to alleviate the cost of homeownership, but you are also helping our partners worldwide!
Thanks to your generosity, SGVHFH has been able to tithe over $185,000 – which has funded 70 homes around the world in addition to the 43 completed locally. We have provided housing for families in Armenia, Cambodia, United Kingdom, Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Philippines and Romania. Additionally, we have tithed specifically to the Asia Tsunami Response and to the Jimmy Carter Work Project in the Mekong Delta, where we sent 15 local volunteers and staff members in back in November of 2009.
