San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity gives a big “Thank you!” to the Yahoo! Employee Foundation for their substantial gift of $40,000 for the Sherman Homes.
Yahoo! has been an ongoing supporter of this affiliate’s work. It is commendable that Yahoo! Employees have approved financial support and have provided construction volunteers for the Pacific, Palmer, Kenwood and Sherman Builds.
This year, employee advocate Andy Hull, presented the case for giving to the Sherman Campaign by saying, “Habitat is about building futures and building dignity. It’s about delivering not just hope, but the expectation of success. This is the transformation of struggling families into stakeholders of the American dream. It affords opportunities that come from homeownership not just for the initial home buyers but for generations that follow. It raises the neighborhoods without driving out the neighbors, and that momentum can permeate throughout the vicinity.
Habitat is a marriage of the best of corporate involvement, government aid, and individual participation; the three pillars of what has, traditionally, made this country great. We have the privilege of becoming one of those pillars and making that tangible difference.
There are many worthy causes to consider, but none more far reaching and profound than changing a family’s course. And let’s not forget the overwhelming participation of the Yahoo! community when it comes to volunteering labor. The reason, I think, is about building and creating something bigger then ourselves. There is something solid about pounding a nail home, about standing up a wall; about feeling a little pain at the end of the day and knowing you have altered the possibilities of peoples lives, that you have been a part of creating a home.”
Thank you, Andy! Thank you, Yahoo! Employee Foundation!
