For each SGV Habitat build, 17–20% of the material costs are typically donated. We depend on the generosity of individuals and companies to donate construction materials, professional engineering and construction services to build homes in partnership with deserving low-income families. All Habitat homes are sold to the partner families at no profit and with no interest on mortgages. The mortgage payments made by Habitat for Humanity’s families are used to build more homes.
When building materials and professional services are donated, our funds can be stretched to complete more housing developments and give more families a “hand-up” in obtaining a home of their own. Every gift to San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity is truly a gift that keeps on giving!
All types of new construction materials are welcome. We maintain “Wish Lists” for each build. Please review the Kenwood Wish List and the Sherman Wish List. We always have need for lumber, rough plumbing supplies, electrical supplies, insulation, siding and roofing materials.

Gift-in-Kind Donations
Gift-in-Kind donations are vital to the success of our organization and greatly reduce the cost of running our programs. We also partner with companies in creative ways, building home sponsorships by combining in-kind donations and services with cash house sponsorships. Some ideas to get involved with San Gabriel Valley Habitat through Gift-in-Kind material donations or professional services are listed below.
New Construction Materials
For those organizations that desire to make construction related product donations, San Gabriel Valley Habitat view’s these contributions similarly to a cash donation. Almost any new construction related material such as lumber, plumbing, nails and fasteners or new appliances can help save San Gabriel Valley funds to be used elsewhere. The material contribution value is equated to the House Sponsorship program and the same marketing benefits are provided.
Pro Bono Professional Services
For those organizations that are interested in providing professional services, we place high value and enjoy these partnerships too. Professional services such as legal, environmental, architectural, construction or engineering services are of great need.
Here are some examples of pro bono services we greatly appreciate:
- Grading
- Engineering services for structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing
- Surveying
- Mapping (for tentative and final tract maps)
- Pouring concrete
- Finishing drywall
- Roofing
- Stuccoing
- Plumbing installations
- Electrical installations
Vehicle Donation
Do you have on old car, truck, van or boat in your driveway? Did you purchase or do you plan to purchase a new car and don’t know what to do with your current car? Did you know you can donate your used vehicle or boat to Habitat and receive a valuable tax deducation? You donation will help fund the construction of new homes!
Even if your vehicle donesn’t run or isn’t registered, we can still use it. We provide free pickup and towing through Riteway Charity Services and Cars for Homes. Please call Sayaka at (626) 387-6899 x14 to give us the make and model information on your car. You can also use the online form for faster service–remember to select San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity as your designated charity!
