SUNGREEN SYSTEMS DONATES SOLAR ENERGY SOLUTIONS TO SAN GABRIEL VALLEY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TOWNHOMES
Affordable housing is coming to Glendale — and affordable solar energy is coming with it.
SunGreen Systems, Inc., is donating complete photovoltaic systems to five new townhomes being built by the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity (SGVHH). Located at 624-630 Geneva Street, this Geneva Build will house five low-income families, and will be SGVHH’s first green community.
“While green energy is growing, most of the early adopters have been corporations and wealthy homeowners,” said SunGreen Systems’ Chairman, Y.Y. Lin. “We want to give back to the community by providing energy savings to those who need them most. SGV Habitat for Humanity presented the perfect opportunity.” The signing ceremony will take place Tuesday, August 31 at 2 P.M. at SunGreen Systems’ main office.
In addition to covering the $79,500 cost of the solar-energy system and installation, SunGreen is helping SGVHH raise the $600,000 cash needed for constructing the townhomes. Anyone who purchases a SunGreen solar power system may request that SunGreen donate $1,000 in their name to the Geneva Build project.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for March 2011, provided that an initial $400,000 is raised. The 3-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom units will sell for the actual cost of construction with a 0% interest mortgage. The solar energy systems will help the families save approximately $100 monthly on their electricity bills.
“I am tremendously grateful to SunGreen Systems for their interest in and support of our first green build,” said Sonja Yates, Director of SGVHFH. “SunGreen’s solar panels will create value and savings for the Habitat for Humanity homebuyers.”
