George is President of Transwestern. George oversees all business lines while leveraging and developing new strategic plans to expand the company’s business on the West Coast, including the Northern & Southern California and Phoenix. George is also a member of Transwestern’s board of directors.
He has over 20 years of commercial real estate experience. Prior to joining Transwestern, George founded Lightship Ventures in 2002. Lightship Ventures consulted corporations, landowners and government entities on the disposition and repositioning of urban located underperforming real estate assets.
Before establishing Lightship Ventures, George served as executive vice president of Vivendi Universal in Paris, France and Los Angeles where he directed the company’s global real estate business. George managed the company’s 30 million square foot portfolio and theme park land assets and directed the real estate merger activity associated with the Vivendi, Seagram and Universal Music mergers.
During his career, Garfield also held executive positions with The Walt Disney Company, where he directed the firm’s worldwide corporate real estate strategy including commercial and entertainment development activities and with La Salle Partners Limited, where he served as a leader in agency leasing & marketing, investment management, dispositions and business development services.
George is an active member of the following organizations:
- Urban Land Institute (ULI): Chair of Long Range Planning-ULI-Los Angeles; Urban Development/Mixed-Use Council
- Habitat for Humanity, Board President
- Alternate Living for the Aging, Board Vice President
George has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Colorado College, and earned his M.B.A. from the University of Denver.
