How You and Your Family Can Qualify as a Habitat Home Buyer

  • Need. You may qualify as a Habitat homeowner if your present housing is overcrowded, substandard or dangerous, and other adequate shelter is not available to you.
  • Ability To Pay. The Family Selection Committee will check to determine whether your family has the resources necessary to purchase a home, making sure you have a steady source of income, that you do not have outstanding liens or judgements, and that you have demonstrated responsibility in paying rent and other obligations.
  • Income. Minimum and maximum income levels are established for each new development based on the source of funding and government regulations at the time of the build.
  • Willingness To Partner with Habitat. Selected home buyers must agree to contribute 500 hours of “sweat equity” to  help build their homes alongside many volunteers who wish to help. Qualifying Habitat families are willing to partner with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity on a long term basis. A continuing partnership with Habitat and with other Habitat homeowners is expected.
  • Additional Requirements. Families chosen for Habitat homeownership should not overcrowd or underutilize the house. A 1% cash down payment is required.  Preference may be given to local residents.  San Gabriel Valley Habitat fo Humanity is an Equal Housing Lender.
  • Special Notes. No waiting lists are maintained.  Each new development is marketed to eligible buyers before construction of the homes begins.  Successful applicants participate in the groundbreaking and dedication ceremonies for their homes.

Note: No new home buyer opportunities are currently available.
