2017 Open House Stud Signing

Thank you to all who joined us at last Saturday’s Open House Stud Signing!

During the event, we wrote words of encouragement on the wooden frames of five future Habitat homes. The words will soon be covered by drywall, but we partake in stud signings like Saturday’s to remind ourselves that just like our signatures, the impact our volunteers, donors, and supporters will live on far after construction has finished.

Did you miss the event? You can still partake in our stud signing! Just stop by our Atwater Village or Azusa ReStores before the end of November to sign 2×4 wood studs we’ve made available. We’ll incorporate them into the next homes we’re building in Glendale and Pasadena.

Thanks again to all our homeowners and volunteers who came to the Open House Stud Signing! We had a great time and hope you did too!! #sgvhabitatforhumanity #sgvhfhbuilds #buildinghomes#Desiderio #Pasadena #DesiderioHomes #HabitatHomeowner#HabitatHome #studsigning #wordsofhope #habitatforhumanity

Lomita Groundbreaking

On Saturday, August 26th, we officially broke ground on six new Lomita homes in Glendale.

For Lusine & Artak, Monzur & Hasina, Kevin & Magaly, Christopher, Rocio, and Carlos & Diana—our future Lomita homeowners—the Lomita homes are more than just a place to live. They represent a decent place to raise their families, a healthy environment for their children and a future with endless possibilities.

So, what’s next?
As we begin building, we invite you to make a donation or sign-up to volunteer. Your support will help us serve even more hardworking families throughout the San Gabriel Valley, including the future homeowners you may have met at the Groundbreaking.

Each dollar and volunteer hour help us build a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Thank you so much for being a part of the Habitat for Humanity and ReStore community.

In partnership,
Mark Van Lue
Executive Director

✩ A Fond Farewell to Retiring Executive Director, Dr. Sonja L. Yates ✩

A couple of weeks ago we spent a wonderful evening celebrating the career and legacy of Dr. Sonja L. Yates as she retired from San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity. For those who joined us in Monrovia, thank you! I’m sure you’ll agree it was a special evening, and Sonja was so touched by your presence. For those who couldn’t make it in person, we all felt your spirit and well wishes.

Sonja forged deep relationships with so many of you during her work here, and your support in myriad ways has and continues to make our work possible. Sonja worked tirelessly to grow the capacity of our organization to assist as many as possible in achieving their dream of home ownership. My charge going forward is to continue to build on the strong foundation she and our wonderful team, and board of directors, have laid. I will step into her shoes, work equally as hard, and try my best to match her level of heart and compassion for our work.

I hope I can count on your continued investment in our community through the work of San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity. Growing an organization to achieve even greater impact requires investment, and it is so rewarding to watch that investment help family after family achieve their dream of owning a home! If you have been inspired by Sonja’s work and achievements and would like to help build an even brighter future for the San Gabriel Valley, please consider a contribution to the Dr. Sonja L. Yates Fund, which will continue her legacy of building our capacity to help more hard working families.

2016 Stud Signing

2016 Desiderio Homes Stud Signing Lots 1-4 was a success! A Stud Signing is a habitat tradition. When the framework of a house is built, volunteers leave the wooden studs exposed so others can come through and write a few words of love and encouragement for the future homeowner family.
