We rely on the dedication and generosity of thousands of volunteers each year. Volunteers are an essential part of the Habitat partnership and they do way more than swing hammers — they serve as fund raisers, event planners, lunch makers, advocates, donors and so much more. Helping out at Habitat is a great way to demonstrate your commitment to improving your community.
.
Step 1: Attend Orientation
The first step to getting involved with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity is to attend a Volunteer Orientation. SGVHFH staff will go over the basics of Habitat, local efforts, volunteer opportunities and policies/procedures. Before you begin volunteering on a construction site, in our office or in our ReStores, it is MANDATORY that you attend a Volunteer Orientation. Orientations are held the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at our office, located at 400 South Irwindale Avenue in Azusa. Click here to learn more information and to sign up.
.
Step 2: Register
The next step is to fill out a Volunteer Information Form — you can submit the online form or fill out the PDF version to email the Volunteer Coordinator.
.
Step 3: Join VolunteerUP
We have a new volunteer management system! VolunteerUP is a great way for volunteers to update contact information, check their volunteer hours and sign up for special interest teams. This also enables SGV Habitat to best display and track our calendar of volunteer opportunities.
Both existing and new volunteers will need to register with VolunteerUP and create a username and password in order to sign up for service opportunities. Click here to begin the registration process.
.
Step 4: Get Involved!
During Volunteer Orientation, SGVHFH staff will present a variety of current and upcoming volunteer opportunities. After you’ve completed the first three steps, all you have to do is sign up for a service day with our Volunteer Coordinator or at our VolunteerUP calendar.
Here are the current volunteer opportunities most urgently needed:
ReStore
+ Help at either of our ReStore locations (Azusa and Pasadena) with cleaning, organizing, helping customers, etc.
Office
+ Do you have at least one morning or afternoon free per week (or biweekly)? Are you experienced in Microsoft Office products and comfortable using the computer? We can use your help with data entry!
+ If you only have occasional mornings or afternoons available, we can use your help with mailings and envelope-stuffing!
+ Our Executive Director is looking for a volunteer to assist with phone coverage, grant-writing projects and general fund development – this would require at least one morning or afternoon per week and some writing/research.
Event Planning
+ Casino Night: We are currently in the planning stages of a Casino Night, which would be a light-hearted fundraising event for SGVHFH taking place sometime in the late summer/fall.
+ Volunteer Recognition Reception: A recognition event celebrating the work of our many volunteers is being planned for late July.
Family Services
+ Family Partners: Pair up with one of our selected home buyer families and help walk them through the homeownership process.
+ Homeowners Association Partners: If you have experience in working with HOAs, we can use your help in setting up a Homeowners Association for our home buyer families!
.
