Habitat International

Community Service

Habitat welcomes volunteers who are required by a court to do community service.  While all of our volunteer opportunities are open to such volunteers, the time-frame required for the hours’ completion typically means that an individual will volunteer either in construction or at one of our ReStores.

To be eligible to use San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity as a source for completing community service, your sentence cannot involve a conviction of a theft, burglary or sexual-related offense; it cannot involve a second-offense conviction of a violent nature; you must also submit written confirmation of the required number of service hours.

Additionally, you must the following steps:

1. Fill out and submit a Volunteer Information form and our Court-Ordered Community Service Acknowledgment

2.  Attend one of our monthly Volunteer Orientations and pick up a Volunteer Agreement & Release from Liability form as well as our Construction Safety Guidelines; contact our Volunteer Coordinator to schedule your service hours

3. Use our Community Service Hours to track your hours.

4. Sign in upon arrival at the work locations, and be sure to sign out when you leave.  Remember to have the site supervisor sign the Community Service form each day you volunteer, verifying your attendance and hours.

5. Once your hours are complete, bring your form to the SGV Habitat main office for a final signature and so we can make a copy for our records.  We will then send a letter verifying the completion of your service hours to the appropriate authorities.

Please note: San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity reserves the right to terminate this agreement for community service if the participant is in any way unproductive, disruptive, or in any other way negatively impacts the accomplishment of the daily goals.
