San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity and the Housing Authority of the City of Glendale are partnering to build six new single-family affordable homes in Glendale, CA
AZUSA, CA (August 7, 2017) – Since 1995, the City of Glendale and San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity (SGV Habitat) have partnered to provide affordable housing. In continuation of their long-term partnership, six new townhouse-style homes will be built at 700 E. Lomita Ave. in Glendale, CA 91205. Family selection has been completed and six wonderful families were notified in November 2016. Across all the families, there are 16 children.To date, SGV Habitat has completed 12 housing developments with 62 homes in five cities: Pasadena, Glendale, Duarte, El Monte,
To date, SGV Habitat has completed 12 housing developments with 62 homes in five cities: Pasadena, Glendale, Duarte, El Monte, and Monrovia. In addition, we have the six Lomita homes underway in Glendale and 11 homes (including 9 at Desiderio in Pasadena) totaling 79 homes completed or in progress. Glendale has the most developments: eight completed builds and 37
homes. Lomita is the ninth partnership build and will bring the number of homes in Glendale to a total of 43.
The Lomita Build has been made possible by SGV Habitat’s partnership with Glendale Housing Authority, who purchased the property on which the Lomita homes will be built. Each of the six Lomita homes will have three bedrooms, about 1,300 square feet of living space, and a two-car garage. These homes, like all of San Gabriel Valley’s previous builds, will strengthen the
community and build new bonds.
All local Habitat for Humanity builds are funded by local donations. SGV Habitat continues to raise funds for this build, which is slated to be completed by Fall/Winter of 2018. Pro bono services and donations of construction materials are also instrumental. The Lomita Homes will provide 6 low or medium income families opportunities for affordable home ownership. The family selection applications were open to families who make 60-80% of the AMI (Area Median Income), opening doors for approximately 30 men, women, and children currently living in substandard housing conditions.
